UNION VELO ANNOUNCES MASTERS MEN’S TEAM FOR 2004

ATTLEBORO, MA- The Union Velo Club (www.unionvelo.org) is announcing the formation of a new masters men’s road team to compete in USCF 35+ road and criterium events in 2004. The team is comprised of 16 riders, categories 1 through 4, who will compete in a 12-race schedule contesting some of New England’s most prestigious races. Union Velo has chosen
to focus on Masters racing in 2004 and beyond as the changing demographics in the domestic amateur bicycle racing scene have made this class one of the biggest and most competitive category in racing.

The team is sponsored by Union Cycle of Attleboro, MA, Nash Development Corporation of Sudbury, MA, the Sylvan Learning Centers, Attleboro Gastroenterology, Dr. Raymond Martin, DDS, Fireball Heating & Treating and Wintergreen Woodworks. The team’s equipment sponsors include: Mavic wheels, Rudy Project helmets and eyewear, Fuji bicycles, SmartFuel nutritional products, Sidi cycling shoes, and Pedros lubricants and cleansers. The team is outfitted by
Verge Sports.

The team is founded on the principle of cohesive team tactics. Over the team’s 2004 schedule, the team will focus on using these tactics to impact the outcome of these events. Team leadership will change based on those riders demonstrating the best form, with the team working to support their leader with tactical racing strategie. Among the races the team will concentrate on are the 4-day Fitchburg-Longsjo Stage Race held in Central Massachusetts, the Attleboro Criterium (sponsored by Union Velo), the Jiminy Peak Road Race, Sterling Classic, Central New Hampshire Road Race and the Green Mountain Stage Race.

Begun in 1986, The Union Velo Club (UVC) is comprised of 50 members — men, women and juniors — participating in road and mountain biking disciplines. Over the past 18 years, the club has grown to absorb two successful training race series — The East Bay Training Series,
a 17-week Criterium series and the Lincoln Cyclocross Series, a 6-week cyclocross training series. Both races are held in Lincoln, RI and promoted in conjunction with the
East Bay Cycling Club. Union Velo is also a proud sponsor of the Attleboro Criterium.
